When we first meet her; Lois Lane is already one of the greatest and most famous reporters in the world. [Superman deserves a Super-Woman.] She's that good, and she's that good because [as is obvious even with those x-ray vision] her Hildy Johnson Front Page smartass attitude is about three angstroms thick, and beneath it is a woman of remarkable compassion. That she never loses sight of the fact that she's not the story is probably the only reason she's not a TV anchorwoman whose ratings could eclipse Brokaw's.
The [largely insincere] cynicism with which she confronts new people and new situations is a necessary defense mechanism, because being a leader in her field brings with it a lot of stuff that's a pain in the ass. Everyone wants something from her; everyone's pulling at her all the time, she always feels like she has twice as much responsibility as she ever signed on for - or, to put it more simply, the bigger you are, the tighter and more smothering the world around you.
So imagine her delight to find a man who can fly.
Lois is attracted to Superman, at least initially, because he symbolizes freedom. He can rise above the world, and when she's with him, she can, too. Beyond that - well, without making her unlikable, someone of her stature does have a slight streak of arrogance. She's dated kings and multimillionaires and has been bored by them all - but now there's THIS guy - AND, unlike that pesky fellow in the office [What's his name? Kent?], Superman's playing hard to get.
What does Superman love about Lois? Her compassion. Her intense dedication to a job that, when done right, makes the world a better place. The way she constantly surprises him, a man who is almost impossible to surprise. And, in no small part, that, when he's Clark, she's hard to get. [Note: At some point early on, the first time Lois sees that Superman has super-senses, she ought to observe to him that he'd make a great reporter.]

Born to General Sam Lane and his wife Elinore on a U.S. Army base in Germany, young Lois Lane was an overachiever from childhood. She turned to journalism after being inspired by then-reporter Perry White and his paper, Metropolis's Daily Planet.
After high school, Lois started to work part-time at the Planet, and quickly rose to prominence with an expose of Lex Luthor. When Clark Kent first appeared in costume publicly and saved citizens of metropolis from a disaster caused by LexCorp, Lois and photographer Jimmy Olsen got the story firsthand. Lois Lane wrote the incident up in the Planet and named the stranger "Superman."
Being capable and independent came with a price, however: Lois's love life left much to be desired. Men of power and influence (among them Lex Luthor) bored her, and no one could even challenge her until small-town reporter Clark Kent joined the staff of the Planet. Rivalry turned to partnership, courtship, and finally marriage -- and no woman has ever matched a superhero better than Lois has Clark.
In order to save the Daily Planet from takeover by LexCom, Lois made a deal with the devil: Lex Luthor agreed to sell the paper back to an investor group led by Perry White only if Lois promised to kill one story of Lex's choosing. Only Clark Kent's running the piece - the story of how Luthor failed to act on advance knowledge of the coming war with Imperiex -- himself enabled Lois and the paper to maintain their integrity.
Lois' latest story is a personal investigation -- she's trying to find out who show and nearly killed her when she was reporting a war in Umec.
